Amazon Go stores are reportedly set to start accepting cash

USA Today

After facing increased external pressure, it looks like Amazon’s cashless stores will no longer be cashless.

CNBC reports that in an internal meeting in March, an Amazon executive told employees that the company plans to expand its payment options.

Responding to a question about discrimination against people who are unbanked, Steve Kessel, Amazon’s senior vice president of physical stores, told employees that the company is adding “additional payment mechanisms” at its Go stores, according to CNBC. “We’re in earlier days but it’s an important focus for us and we’ll continue to extend those methods with our stores,” Kessel reportedly said as he discussed payment methods that have been recently introduced to Amazon stores.
