Troy Dannen, Nebraska’s Athletic Director, recently highlighted the substantial benefits of transitioning to a cashless payment system at Memorial Stadium. Partnering with Shift4 as the payment processor, the change has resulted in a remarkable increase in sales. Over the course of four games this season, revenue averaged $375K per game to over $900K per game.
The introduction of cashless transactions streamlined operations, reducing wait times, and enhancing the overall fan experience. The convenience of electronic payments encouraged more spontaneous purchases at concessions and merchandise stands. As a result, the stadium witnessed not only faster transactions but also a higher average spend per fan. (Related: Payments 101 – Credit Card Transaction Flow)
Dannen’s observation aligns with a growing trend in sports venues across the country where cashless systems are proving to be a win-win for both fans and merchants. By embracing technology, Memorial Stadium has positioned itself to better serve attendees while significantly boosting revenue.
This demonstrates how electronic payments, beyond simply replacing cash, can offer valuable benefits for merchants by increasing efficiency and sales volume.
