M&A Overview
M&A activity picks up traction across the payments landscape with several new deal announcements. To kick things off, Marqeta has announced their agreement to acquire Power Finance, a card management platform founded in 2021. This deal marks Marqeta’s first acquisition as they strive toward expanding their credit card products through new innovative tools. Marqeta will pay $223 million in cash, plus an additional $52 million that’s subjected to a milestone being achieved within the next 12 months. Separately, Fleetcor announced last week their acquisition of Mina, an electric vehicle charging software platform. This acquisition follows a successful partnership between the two companies and largely supports Fleetcor’s ability to expand into this new and growing market. Terms of this deal were not disclosed.
In other M&A news, Stripe has unveiled that they will make a plan to go public within the next year. The company’s public debut date and methodology are yet to be determined; however, many have anticipated this long-awaited listing for several years. In addition, Thrive Capital is reportedly committing $1 billion in new capital to Stripe as part of a new investment, which may value the company between $55 to $60 billion.
